I met Tom during the fall of his freshman year and right then I knew he was a special young man. He always wore a smile and always had pleasant things to say to his classmates, teachers, and coaches. Although we cut Tom from the Frosh Football team he did not allow it to affect his demeanor nor did he take it personally. He greeted me everyday and illuminated some drab mornings.
He had many friends but I and I vividly remember his little coffee clutch he had in my homeroom in the front corner. He and his buddies would giggle and laugh all the time about whatever! They would often include me in their antics and this also illuminated some drab mornings, haha.
Tom also served as a model of behavior in the face of adversity for me especially. Although faced with this incredible obstacle, Tom never lost hope nor his smile. He remained strong and positive thoughout the entire ordeal and I just pray that I may be able to face life, and the remedial challenges that I face on a daily basis, with a fraction of Tom’s bravery, resolve, and optimism.
Rest in peace, Tom! Pray for us as we continue to pray for you, your family, and the many friends whose lives you have greatly impacted.
